Unadilla Results
HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. (Aug. 15, 2010) – Unadilla Sports Valley in New Berlin, N.Y. is known to most simply as “Unadilla.” The facility held its first race in 1969 and an inaugural round of what is now the AMA Pro Motocross Championship in 1970. From 1977 until 1992 Unadilla was host to the 250cc United States Grand Prix of Motocross, an annual event bringing Europe’s best riders to the U.S. to compete against the top Americans. In 1987 the facility was the first track in the U.S. to host a round of the prestigious Motocross of Nations event. In 1989 Unadilla returned to the AMA Motocross Championship Series as an annual stop on the tour. Ironically, almost as if to honor the Unadilla heritage, European Grand Prix rider Clemente Desalle chose this event to make a one-race appearance during the 2010 AMA Motocross Championship Series.
When the gate fell for the first moto Josh Grant was just inside the top-10 with Justin Brayton 14th. Over the following 35 minutes Grant and Brayton methodically pushed forward on the rough and rocky terrain eventually finishing the moto sixth and 11th respectively.
Justin Brayton holeshot the second moto leading the pack around turn one with Grant jammed in traffic in the 17th position. After some close quarters racing during the first lap Brayton was shuffled back to fourth. Grant started working his way through the pack, making his way into the top-10 with two laps to go while Brayton drifted back to seventh. On the last lap a minor fall relegated Grant to 14th with Brayton holding on to seventh position.
Grant’s six-14 moto scores earned him ninth overall for the day. Brayton’s 11-seven finishes gave him eighth. Grant remains fourth in series points.
The original broadcast from Unadilla aired live on NBC. The next event for the Muscle Milk/Toyota/JGRMX Team will be Aug. 28 at Motocross 338 in Southwick, Mass. SPEED will broadcast the action starting at 9:00 p.m. (EST).
