69,182 Fans Pack the Georgia Dome
HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. (Feb. 28, 2010) – For the 32nd year, Atlanta was host to the AMA Supercross Championship. 69,182 fans came to the Falcon’s Georgia Dome for the eighth round of the 2010 series which was broadcast live on SPEED.
The Muscle Milk/Toyota/JGRMX Team arrived early for the Atlanta event to conduct interviews with local print and television media outlets. One of the many such interviews can be seen on the following link for the local CBS affiliate: http://www.cbsatlanta.com/video/22667775/index.html. The track crew had a huge 90-foot obstacle jump built for the event called the “quad” as it consisted of four humps. Justin Brayton was the first rider to make the leap during media interviews on Friday morning.
Both Michael Byrne and Justin Brayton transferred from their heat races into the main event. When the gate dropped for the main event Brayton rounded the first turn in fifth position with Byrne tangled in mid-pack. Byrne started moving forward, breaking into the top-10 on lap two, and up to seventh at the checkers. Brayton, who has been very consistent all season maintained his top-five position throughout the race finishing fifth.
The original broadcast from Atlanta was aired live on SPEED. SPEED will re-air the race today at 6:00 p.m. (EST). The ninth round of the 17-race series will be the Daytona Supercross on March 6 at Daytona International Speedway. SPEED will broadcast the action live beginning at 8:00 p.m. (EST).
