HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. (June 28, 2009) – Thunder Valley Motocross in Lakewood, Colo. was host to round five of the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship. For the second consecutive year, the race was held at night under lights brought in to create an outdoor stadium effect. SPEED provided live coverage of the second 450 moto, and as always, the first motos were aired live on allisports.com.

The first moto was held in natural light at 7:00 p.m. local time. Josh Grant, who set the fastest lap in practice, started in the top-5, and would round the first lap in seventh. Just before the halfway point of the moto, Grant moved into fifth, where he would remain to the checkers. Cody Cooper started the moto toward the front, but was landed on by another rider causing significant damage to his motorcycle. He was able to finish the moto several laps down from the leaders, but his wounded machine could only manage a 32nd place.

By the second moto, shortly after 9:00 p.m. local time, night had fallen and only the artificial light illuminated the mile plus long track. Grant and Cooper started around mid-pack, and were in 13th and 17th after the first lap. They both steadily advanced throughout the race with Grant finishing fifth and Cooper eighth. Grant’s 5-5 moto scores earned him sixth overall, and Cooper’s 32-8 finishes credited him with 11th for the night.

After five of twelve rounds, the 450 Class series points are:

1. Chad Reed 195               6. Thomas Hahn 123
2. Andrew Short 181           7. Michael Byrne 117
3. Ivan Tedesco 160           8. Cody Cooper 104
4. Josh Grant 151             9. Ricky Dietrich 88
5. Mike Alessi 142              10. Justin Brayton 79

The next round of the series will be on July 4 at Red Bud Motocross Park in Buchanan, Mich. The first motos of both the 250 and 450 classes will air live on www.allisports.com starting at 1:00 p.m. (EST). The second 450 moto will air live on NBC Sports starting at 3:30 p.m. (EST).
